Two ferries allided with berths in Amsterdam
The Dutch transport company GVB has instructed the masters of its ferries to sail more carefully and to pay extra attention to mooring on the quay. In addition, the inspection on certain parts was being tightened, GVB announced on May 13, 2018. The extra security measures were being taken due to two recent incidents in Amsterdam with two different types of ferries operated by the GVB. On May 11 a faulty handle was the cause of the "IJveer 55" crashing too hard against the quay. No one was injured. The defective instrument was further examined for manufacturing defects and has been replaced. On May 5 the "IJveer 60" allided with a berth, and 13 passengers were injured. The accident is still under investigation. If necessary, additional measures will be taken on the basis of the results. The ferries in Amsterdam bring travelers across the IJ from the northern shore to the center and back.
