Reefer caused oil spill in Piraeus
The Greek Coast Guard detained the master and the chief engineer of the "Ice Glacier" on Sep 27, 2017 in Piraeus, for an oil leak, which occurred during bunkering operations. A small amount of heavy fuel escaped from a faulty vent onto the deck, and some of it leaked overboard, contaminating about 70 square meters water. The master immediately informed the authorities about the spill, and the crew took all required measures to contain and clean up the fuel. A private company was contracted for the clean-up operation. The authorities requested a letter of guarantee from the vessel's manager to cover the pending fine. After the master and chief were released, the reefer left Piraeus on Sep 28, bound for Canakkale, ETA Sep 29.
