Passenger ship in distress off Patmos
The Port Authority of Patmos was informed on June 15, 2022, at noon by the Captain of the 'Icariada Princess' about a rudder failure and water ingress with 23 passengers and two crew members on board east of Patmos. A patrol boat immediately came to assist, as well as the 'Irini'. which water inflow was found. The passengers were transferred onto the 'Irini' in good health with the assistance of the patrol boat, Then the 'Icariada Princess' was towed to the port of Skala Patmos, in a state of semi-sinking. A professional diver, the floating crane "Anastasia" as well as the "Spyridon" attended. An oil boom was laid out for precautionary reasons. The ship could be stabilized, and no marine pollution was observed. The Patmos Port Authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, prohibited the departure of the vessel until the repair of the damage and a certification of seaworthiness by the classification society that is monitoring it.
Water ingress in Piraeus
In the morning of Feb 28, 2021, the 5th Port Department of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus was informed that the 'Ionian Blue', which was moored in the Zeas marina in Piraeus, had suffered a water ingress. Immediately a patrol boat was deployed to the scene and found the ship with a list to port. Dewatering pumps were installed with the care of the port authority. An oil boom was laid out for precautionary reasons to avoid any pollution. A vehicle of the Fire Service also provided assistance as well as a diving crew. During the pumping, a slight marine pollution was observed which was self-dissolving inside the floating dam. The Port Authority of Zeas, which was conducting the preliminary investigation, banned the departure of the the ship until the presentation of a certificate of seaworthiness.
Ferry detained for environmental pollution
In the afternoon of Aug 8, 2019, officers of the Greek Coast Guard ordered an inspection of the "Ionian Blue" at the port of Gaius Paxos by staff of the Corfu Central Port Authority. It was found that the operation of its two electric motors created intense pollutants, and at the same time oil droplets and in particular an iridescent oil film were observed on the surface of the water, covering about four square meters. The vessel was operating from Parga port to the ports of Gaius Paxos, Antipaxos and back to Parga with 195 passengers on board. The Port Authority launched a preliminary investigation against the captain of the ship. The ship was allowed to carry out a single voyage to the port of Parga, where its detention continued, until the class confirmation of the ship's classification society.
