Worker lost eye sight after welding accident
Emergency services of the fire brigade and the German lifesaving company DLRG rescued an injured worker from the 'IBis VI in the night of May 9, 2020, on the Elbe. The 45-year-old had lost his eyesight. The worker had been injured in the afternoon during welding work. The crew informed the rescue sercice. As the the pain increase, the 45-year-old man complained of loss of eyesight. At 11:24 p.m., the fire and rescue control center alarmed the Stade fire brigade, the Stader group of the German Lifesaving Society (DLRG), the emergency medical personnel of the emergency services of the German Red Cross from the rescue station Drochtersen and an emergency doctor from the Elbe Clinic in Stade. Because the patient urgently needed specialist medical treatment, the emergency services prepared the rescue from the dock in Stadersand. With their fireboat 'Henry Köpcke', the Stade firefighters headed for the 'Ibis V' which was near Barnkrug. The DLRG forces embarked the rescue service personnel on board their boat 'Kiek ut' in Stadersand. The emergency services took the patient on board the 'Henry Köpcke' and brought him to the pier in Stadersand. There he was first cared for by paramedics and an emergency doctor. He later came to a special clinic in Hamburg in the ambulance. The' Ibis V' stopped on the Elbe. The Hamburg water police started an investigation, the crew of the patrol boat 'Amerikahöft' moored at the pier in Stadersand immediately after the rescue operation and questioned the emergency services.
