A ROV operated by the "Alucia" on Apr 4, 2011, two years after the crash of the Air France flight AF 447 over the Atlantic on June 1, 2009, traced the wreckage of the Airbus aboard which all 228 people were killed. After three unsuccessful searches, wreck parts have now been discovered in almost 4000 meters. They should be recovered in three to four weeks. There was new hope to find the flight recorder. The A330 was en route from Rio to Paris when it crashed in a storm front, after the speedometers and more devices had failed. The exact cause of the crash remains unclear. Three previous searches were unsuccessful. 51 bodies were found short after the crash. The ROV took photos of engines, tires and other debris. One of the robots came from the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences, IFM GEOMAR, Kiel.
