Sailor died after fall of 30 meters

A 29-year-old Filipino sailor lost his life on Jan 30, 2019, in Port Est while working on a ventilation duct of the "Al Rawdah", the upper propeller of which he had to exchange. Shortly before 2 p.m. the man lost his balance and fell about 30 meters inside the metal duct and suffered multiple traumas. Despite the attemopots of the rescue forces, which attended at 2.08 p.m., he fell into cardiac and respiratory arrest after being treated and could not be revived. A medical examination of the body was ordered by the parquet of Saint-Denis.

Bottom repair in Singapore

The "Al Rawdah" is actually in drydock at Jurong Shipyard in Singapore where a part of the ship's bottom is getting replaced after the grounding off Batam in July 2011.

Yesterday it was reported that Smit Salvage successfully refloated the grounded AL RAWDAH which was aground on the Batu Berhanti reef in the Singapore Straits near the island of Sanbu (Indonesia)
