Bulkcarrier rescued distressed boaties off Carnarvon
Two men have been rescued from a life raft after the 16-m- vessel "Conquistador" had caught fire, 40 kilometers off the coast from Lake McLeod, north of Carnarvon. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority were alerted to the drama unfolding in the ocean after a distress beacon registered to was set off on Feb 5, 2018, at 2.20am. The AMSA’s Challenger jet from Perth and the nearby "Ikan Senyur" were diverted to the area. The Carnarvon Volunteer Sea Rescue was also called in to assist. The men in their 30s were located in a life raft about 4.50 a.m., and at 5.10 a.m. the crew of the bulkcarrier launched a rescue boat to recover the men.
