Grounding off Cebu

Sat Aug 03 13:51:56 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Arikun" ran aground in the vicinity of the Lauis Ledge Light House in Talisay City on Aug 3, 2019, at 7 a.m. Coast Guard divers and personnel from the Marine Environmental Protection Unit failed to locate traces of oil spill from the vessel which suffered minor scratches on its hull, the underwater inspection made by personnel from the Special Operations Unit in Central Visayas (SOU-CV) showed. None of the vessel’s 18 crew members that consisted of Chinese, Vietnamese and Burmese nationals were injured . The ship was carrying 4,120 tons of wheat. It had made a stopover at the ports of Davao City before it sailed to Cebu where it was supposed to dock at the Cebu International Port (CIP). At 11 a.m. the ship was towed to dock at the ports of Talisay City and moored in the Talisay anchorage area where divers can conduct further inspections. The captain was advised to file a deficiency report before the vessel will be allowed to sail again.
