Containership boarded by perpetrators

Wed Mar 18 11:15:20 CET 2020 Timsen

While the Kota Anggerik' was moored at the Belawan anchorage on March 13, at 8.10 p.m. the duty able seaman on the forecastle deck alerted the bridge when he discovered a perpetrator trying to open the bolt of portside hawse pipe gate. The perpetrator was wearing a face mask and armed with a metallic object. The duty officer immediately sounded the vessel's whistle. The perpetrator fled the scene and escaped through a hawse pipe into a waiting unlit wooden boat. A second perpetrator was spotted jumping into the water from the vessel's anchor chain. A security search was conducted. There were no damages to the vessel's properties, and nothing was stolen. The incident was reported to the local authorities.
