Pirates pumped off cargo from Abu Dhabi Star

The 51,000-ton Singapore-flagged tanker, the Abu Dhabi Star, was seized by pirates off Lagos long enough to pump off it fuel oil cargo in what has become the style of West African pirates, while the crew safely lodged themselves in pre-prepared fortified panic room or citadel.

The Nigerian Navy helped to free the hijacked "bu Dhabi Star" in the afternoonSep 5. The 23 sailors were unharmed. The soldiers took the ship in hands and freed the Indian crew, who had found shelter in a panic room. The hijackers fled when thy saw the naval vessel approaching. It was still unclear whether they have stolen cargo. The tanker was eighty kilometers off the coast of Lagos. The ship was being escorted into the port by the Navy.
