Collision with submarine

The 'Hoegh London', enroute from Masan to Xingang, was in collision with a submarine of the Korea Navy on July 15, 2020, at 2 p.m. The submarine was navigating at the surface off Gaduk Island, Busan Newport. The 'Hoegh London' suffered minor damage on its bulbous bow and anchored at Masan for further investigations and inspections. The damage to the submarine was unknown.

Ship released after emergency repairs

After emergency repairs the "Hoegh London" left the port of Pozzallo on March 7 at 5.50 p.m. and headed to Piraeus with its cargo of cars, ETA March 9, 5 a.m. The speedy repair was achieved only thanks to the perfect synergy and the maximum collaboration of all the Public Offices involved, combined with the availability always guaranteed by the technical-nautical port services, which allowed the ship to sail after finishing repairs to the heavily damaged bulkhead and completing, in just four days, the additional lashing of all 2,498 vehicles on board.

Dead Chinese to be repatriated

The "Hoegh London" which had suffered cargo shift an damage enroute from Tangier (Morocco) to Turkey, remained under repair at the cargo terminal in the port of Pozzallo. A flaw that had opened on the port side. The captain also had asked for permission to berth as a Chines crew member had died on board, being hit by moving cargo. The prosecutor of the Republic of Ragusa was in charge of the matter and has contacted the Chinese embassy. The embassy will contact the relatives in order to be able to repatriate the body.
