Container ship left Guayaquil weeks after grounding incident

Wed Oct 10 13:20:06 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "AS Fortuna" sailed from Guayaquil on Oct 6, 2018. She had run aground on Guayaquil on Sep 13. The vessel was crossing Del Morro Channel after leaving the maritime Port of Guayaquil, on his way to the sea buoy, with a maximum draft of 9.2 metres. After passing buoy No.11, a total blackout occurred due to a failure in the engineering department and the vessel continued to fall to starboard without control in the trajectory and times that are visualized in the electronic chart causing it to lie on a sand bank, with an approximate depth of four to five metres. On the subsequent days, the vessel was exposed to strong waves; reason why,it is alleged that the government system and the hull may have been affected, since there was reported water entrance and flooding in one of the holds. A /salvage team managed to re-float the vessel, on Sep 29. The vessel was towed to Guayaquil Port Authority docks in order to proceed with the unloading of the cargo.
