The 'Hira V', en route from Odessa to Sevilla, rescued 78 migrants on Oct 14, 2024, at 2.20 p.m, in pos. 36 53.5 N 021 39 E. The tanker was 20 minutes away in the Mataban Sea, when receiving a call for help, and headed towards the boat with the instructions of OLIMPIA radio regarding the subject. The last instruction given was to take the people on the boat on deck. Among the migrants were six children, 10 women and 62 men. Once on board, first aid interventions, food, drinks and blankets were given. The migrants had been at sea for four days and were coming from Iraq, Iran, Egypt and Afghanistan. Some of them had Turkish liras. They said that their captain was Russian but had escaped. They reported that they had agreed for 70000 Euros. In order for the tanker to continue the current voyage, OLIMPIA radio was requested that the Greek Coast Guard come and get them. As the Coast Guard did respond, the tanker headed to the port of Pylos, 39 miles north, and returned the refugees to the Greek authorities at 11:30 a.m. Reports with photos: https://newsatsea.com/turkish-maritime-news/hira-v-rescues-78-irregular-migrants/ https://turkdeniz.com/hira-v-isimli-tanker-78-duzensiz-gocmeni-kurtardi
