Hilmar assisted disabled barge
On Dec 2 the "Hilmar", 1500 ts (EU-No.: 02318521), came to assist the German flagged self propelled barge "Dirk", 1188 ts (EU-No.: 04605630), being loaded with 910 tons scrap metals, on the Rhine. The ship had suffered engine failure at 7.30 a.m. while backing out of the city port Karlsruhe to sail Rhine upstram. It drifted into the Maxauer Gróund and scraped a crib with its stern. It was then pushed perpendicular to the fairway, and the attempt to anchor the ship failed. The "Dirk" drifted in the direction of the left shore before the anchors finally stopped it at river km 361,4. The "Hilmar" was able to take the casualty alongside and move it back into the port, where the police launched an investigation and detained the vessel for surveys of engine and rudder gear.
