Allision on the Maas

Wed Feb 12 09:49:53 CET 2020 Timsen

On Feb 11, 2020, around 7 p.m. a cargo ship with pushed barges was in collision with the tank barge 'Hillegersberg', 3229 ts (EU-No.: 02327025), and the 'Zeeland', 2578 ts (EU-No.: 02205703), at the Maas lock near Sambeek. All three ships were damaged. One of the ships suffered a large crack on the side, just above the waterline, but no water ingress. It was still being investigated whether a technical defect was the cause. The fire brigade was alerted and found out that there was no danger to the environment. The ships involved were empty and therefore not leaking any cargo. One of the crew members was injured when he fell on the deck due to the impact, and was checked by an ambulance. A divers team was also called upon the first report, but there was no one missing. The fire brigade was stood down around 8.30 p.m. The police and Rijkswaterstaat were handling the accident further. The 'Zeeland' and 'Hillegersberg' were underway to Lixhe again on Feb 12.
