Grounding off Skagen
In the late afternoon of Apr 10, 2016, the "Hestia" ran aground on a sandbank off Skagen. The grounding occurred at 6:09 p.m. The grounding was undramatic as the seabed largely consists of sandy bottom. The ship has been authorized to try to get free of the sandbank with the high tide on Apr 11. The North Jutland Police came out with the help of Skagen Rescue Station and checked the ship and crew. Drug tests were negative, so the grounding was therefore considered an accident. The ship, which was loaded with steel rolls, was enroute from Ijmuiden to Halmstad. It refloated from the sandbank off Skagen and berthed at the factory quay in the port on Apr 12 at 1.30 a.m.
