Grounding off railway bridge
On July 31, 2014, at 7.25 p.m. the "Herzog Tassilo" ran aground on the Danube on a stone bar at the railway Bridge Poikam in the lock canal of Bad Abbach. The pusher tug was carrying a 70-m-barge with 3000 tons sunflower seeds and had got out of control due to the strong currents. The ships got perpendicular to the fairway and had to be towed away by a 180-m-barge in the night. During this time the weir in Bad Abbach was closed to reduce the current. Experts surveyed the damage, the ship traffic was flowing again in the late afternoon of Aug 1.
