Ferry disabled and adrift after smoke development in engine room
Smoke emerged from the engine room of the "Møysalen" on Oct 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Berfjord, and the crew alerted the Rescue Coordination Centre of Northern Norwa via Bodø radio y. There was a short circuit in the engine which resulted in the development of smoke. The crew stopped the engine, and thus was the "Møysalen" left adrift in strong NE winds. Fire rescue and ambulance were sent out, but there was no need for evacuation of the ferry, which is operating between Sandnessjøen, Dønna and Løkta and was disabled between the two latter ports. The ferry was taken in tow by two tugs, among them the "Boa Tyr", at 1.30 p.m. and docked in Sandnessjøen. Also the "Helgeland" and "Thorolf Kveldulfson" assisted. There were two passengers and a crew of seven on board the ferry. No one was injured during the incident. In addition, there were two cars on board. Operator Boreal started to find the damage to the engine. In the afternoon the ferry "Vefsna" was inserted on the route. Norwegian report with photo: http://www.hblad.no/nyheter/article6309040.ece
