Fire off Misrata
The "United Ocean" suffered a fire in the engine room in the morning of Oct 30, 2016, in the Mediterranean Sea about 100 miles northeast of Misrata. The ship was en route from Misrata to Algeria. It was disabled and adrift and issued a distress signal at 8 a.m. The Italian Navy ship "Mimbelli" was sent to assist, and also the Norwegian offshore ship "Siem Pilot", actually engaged in FRONTEX operations, was deployed and took the ship in tow and moored off Valletta on Nov 3 at 3.30 a.m. No injures were reported among the 12 crew members.
Ship leaves Shoreham after five-month stay
A ship that had become a permanent fixture at Shoreham Harbour has finally sailed after a five-month stay. The United Ocean was detained in November by Port State Control for a number of deformities, which were suitably resolved to allow the ship to be released on March 14. It sailed five days later. Before too long, the terminal that the United Ocean occupied will be home to a new ship, continuing the steady flow of import and export throughout Sussex via Shoreham.
