Pakistani Sailor Rescued by Indian Coast Guard off Calicut.

Mon Feb 09 05:34:03 CET 2015 vrijmohan

Sailing the rough sea, the Indian Coast Guard unit from Beypore came to the rescue of a 55-year-old Pakistan national who suffered acute lower abdomen pain while sailing in Mt Bunga Angsana on Saturday night. Khan Mohammed Riyaz, an electrical officer from the ship, was brought to the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) around 11.30 p.m. after he was given first aid. The Indian Coast Guard ship – C-404 sailed 57 nautical miles North West off Beypore coast to carry out the medical evacuation process following the distress message. The Malaysian oil tanker vessel was on its way from Oman to Singapore with 29 crew members on board. Coast Guard officials said there was a well trained medical team on the ship that came to the rescue of the man. At the Beypore port, the immigration formalities were completed very fast so as to rush him to the hospital, they said. The Hospital authorities confirmed that the man was suffering from appendicitis. As per the preliminary medical examination, surgery would not be required at this stage and the pain could be cured through medication, they said. The Hindu: February 9, 2015 07:49 IST
