Container remains lost

Tue Jan 24 21:45:44 CET 2012 Timsen

Until Jan 25 there was no trace of the empty container which went over board of the "Henri R" on Jan 11 on the Waal near Nijmegen. Possible the box drifted away in the current. It might have disappeared under sand meanwhile. Rijkswaterstraat meanwhile has suspended the search after having scanned the river bottom for two weeks. The sunken container was not supposed to be a hazard for shipping.

Container still missing

Fri Jan 13 09:23:22 CET 2012 Timsen

The empty container lost by the "Henri R" in the morning of Jan 10 in the allision with the Waal Bridge has not yet been traced. One container had been removed from the river the same day, but the other could not yet be found in spite of a search of soanr equipped boats of Rijkswaterstaat. Due to the high water level the container does not pose a threat for shipping. The search which was extended one kilometer west of the Waal Bridge is now reaching until the Ewijk Bridge.

Two containers lost in allision

Tue Jan 10 10:32:27 CET 2012 Timsen

The "Henri R" allided with a piling of the Waal bridge at Nijmegen in the night of Jan 10, 2012. The vessel was enroute Amsterdam-Germany when hitting the bridge around 3 a.m. Due to the high water level the antenna was lowered to be able to pass underneath the bridge. This caused the radar to be out of operation too. Two empty containers were lost overboard due to the impact, only one of which could be salvaged yet. It was recovered already at 3.15 a.m. The search for the second container was going on, but hampered by fog. Ship traffic was not obstructed. The bridge suffered slight damage. The "Henri R" berthed at the Waal Quay in Nijmegen after the accident. Dutch report with photos: http://www.gelderlander.nl/voorpagina/nijmegen/article10231829.ece
