Anchor loss in Paros
The Port Authority of Paros was briefed in the afternoon of Feb 4 by the master of the 'Hellenic Highspeed' that during the departure from the port of Paros to the port of Syros an object was caught in the anchor which therefore could not be retrieved. Divers wentand found that the anchor could not be freed and had to be dropped. The vessel continued to sail after being surveyed by an nspector as well as presenting a seaworthiness certificate of the attending classification society. It safely reachded the port of Syros, where the passengers were disembarked. The Syros Port Authority banned the ship from sailing until a new anchor had been installed, the vessel re-inspected and a class certificate presented.
Engine failure off Syros
The Port Authority of Syros was informed in the early hours of Feb 7, 2020, that the 'Hellenic Highspeed', after leaving the port of Kythnos bound to the port of Syros, experienced a malfunction in the propulsion system of the starboard side main engine. The ship was scheduled to operate the route Lavrio - Kea - Kythnos - Syros - Paros - Naxos - Io - Sikinos - Folegandros - Kimolos - Milos and had 15 passengers and three vehicles on board. After it berthed in the port of Syros, an inspector of the Local Ship Inspection Board came on board, while the ship was banned from sailing by the Syros Port Authority. After presenting a certificate from the attending classification societies, it was released and left port again.
