Ferry repair completed

Tue Nov 05 09:24:36 CET 2013 Timsen

The repairs of the "Helgøy" at the Slipen Mekaniske Verksted in Sandnessjøen were completed on Nov 2 and the ferry redelivered to the company Torghatten-Nord AS which put it back into regular schedule. Investigations after the grounding on Oct 25 had shown that there was no technical failure of the vessel. The grounding was indeed caused by a navigational error.

Ferry refloated and taken to yard

Sun Oct 27 23:00:40 CET 2013 Timsen

The "Helgøy" was pulled off the rocks in went the seaward approach of Storselsøy in the morning of Oct 26 at 5.15 a.m. by the lifeboat "Ruth Opsahl". Divers found only minor damage such as a few dents and scratches after the salvage, and the Ferry headed south towards Nesna in the morning before entering a dock at Westcon in Nesnastranda. The two passengers had been taken off by the speedboat "Rødøyloven" Leo and taken to Tonnes earlier, while the crew of four remained aboard. The evening sailing from Jektvik was cancelled, only the Speed boat "Miss Sibella" transported passengers at 8.30 p.m. Meanwhile the "Røtinn" was inserted as a replacement ferry until further notice.
