Saga Lejon reached new home
The "Saga Lejon" which had sailed from Ystad on Oct 20 arrived on Lome anchorage on Nov 13 at 9.30 a.m.
Detained ship waiting for inspectors from Togo
Representatives of the relevant Togolese authorities will fly to Sweden to inspect the "Saga Lejon" in Ystad's port. The ship had been ordered to Karlskrona by the Coast Guard on COt 11 after they had stopped her in open sea because she only had permission to operate the waters the Bråviken and Östergötland archipelago. The ship was banned from sailing, but on Oct 122 it had to be stopped again and was taken to Ystad where it was under surveillance since. Mårten Dahl, inspector of the Swedish Transport Agenc, was aboard the "Saga Lejon" on Oct 14 to try to find out what licenses and certificates the ship really had. It did not have the documents required to sail on to the west coast of Africa. In the afternoon of Oct 15 she was re-registered in Togo from the Swedish flag. Now the inspectors were waiting for Togo authorities to inspect and certify the ship to ensure that it meets all the regulatory requirements to continue the journey. The ban on leaving the port remains until the inspection has been carried out. There were no suspicions that any crime has been committed at this time. In West Africa, the ship is to be used as a private yacht. Previously, the owners have told, among other things, the ship should operate a route between Togo and Cameroon. The ship was registered as a recreational craft and is therefore for private use only.
Detained vessel tried to flee from Karlskrona and was seized by Coastguard
The "Saga Lejon" on the way to Africa ended up in Karlskrona following an intervention by the Swedish Coast Guard. The ship was recently sold by Royal Stockholm Cruise Line to a buyer in Södertälje and was to be deployed on the Togo-Cameroon route at the west coast of Africa. But the "Saga Lejon" only had permission to travel across Bråviken. The first part of the voyage went to Frederikshavn, but came no further than Karlskrona. A sailing ban was issued on Oct 11, 2017. After the ship sailed without having been cleared to do so in the evening of Oct 14, it was located at 7.30 p.m. about 20 miles off Karlskrona and boarded by the Coast Guard. It was taken to Ystad on Oct 15.
