Attentive crew helped save a man's life
The attentivce crew of the 'Hanseatic Inspiration' along with the DGzRS station Helgoland saved the life of a man who fell from a pier into the sea in the night of June 10, 2021. The cruise ship had anchored in the roadstead northeast of the island. Shortly before 3 a.m., the cruise ship crew alerrted the lifeboat 'Hermann Marwede' for screams in the water near the pier. The lifeboat, stationed in the south port of the island, immediately launched its daughter boat 'Verena'. The pier, which leads in the northeast of the island towards the youth hostel, is about 1.6 nautical miles from the berth of the lifeboat and was reached in a very short time. In the dark, the "Hanseatic Inspiration" turned its headlights towards the position from which the screams came. The crew of the 'VerenaÄ found a man floating in the water and pulled him on board. He was already severely hypothermic and couldn't say how long he had been in the water. He was immediately handed over to the shoreside rescue service in the southern harbour. Shortly afterwards, the "Hanseatic Inspiration" lifted its anchor and continued its journey.
