Freighter crew recovered crew of sunken yacht

On its way from Rizhao to Manila the "Easy Success" diverted to recovered the crew of eleven of the French yacht "Tipsy Frenz" which had activated its EPIRB at around 7 p.m. on June 2, 2012, in pos. 21-46.6 N 118-02.8 E in the Taiwan Strait. The ship was sinking due to water ingress. The crew abandoned the yacht and went into life rafts, from where they were safely recovered by the cargo ship. At 06.30 a.m. on June 3 the yacht had most likely sunk.The "Tipsy Frenz", a Wauqueiz Centurion 45S, was one of four yachts competing in the Taiwan Strait Race. The MRCC Hongkong coordinated rescue operation. Weather reports for the area at the time of the incident indicated NE wind of 20-25 knots from and seas of 3 to 4 metres height. The "Easy Success" reached Manila on June 5, where the yachties were handed over to a Coast Guard vessel and landed ashore.
