Lloyd Yard to carry out repairs after fire
The damage caused by the fire aboard the "Hafnia Seaways" was assessed to be some 100000 Euro. On port side cabins and corridors were destroyed or damaged by toxic smoke. The Lloyd Yard Bremerhaven was contracted to carry out the repairs until Nov 8 while the ship will remain moored at the Steubenhöft in Cuxhaven. Ark Futura to replace damaged ferry
DFDS announced in the afternoon of Oct 20 that studies have shown that there has been no damage to the cargo in the fire that broke out on Oct 19 at 7 p.m. In the morning DFDS sent another of the company's ro/ro ships, the "Ark Futura", which was already at the Luebberrt Quay in Cuxhaven, to take over the goods which were aboard the "Hafnia Seaways". It is not yet known when Hafnia Seaways will be back in operation again. The investigations aboard started after the damaged zone was cooled down and the rooms ventilated.
Accident Command retreated from command, ferry safe in port
The "Hafnia Seaways" moored at the Europe Quay in Cuxhavewn on Oct 20 at 00.22 p.m. All embers were deleted. The fire brigade was, however, still going fire watch. Six people (4 passengers, 2 crew) suffered a slight smoke inhalation and were being examined in the hospital. The psychosocial emergency care went on board to offer their help. All seaborne forces were released.
