Lengthy salvage operation off Barra
The "Reul Na Mara Ins 291", 192 gt, with a crew of six on board, got a net around the rudder, unable to put into gear between Tiree and Mingulay in pos. 56 32.8 N, 07 24.85 W on June 20, 2018, at 6.18 p.m. The vessel requested a tow to Castle Bay. The Barra lifeboat was tasked to assist and launched from Castlebay at 7 p.m, but poor weather hampered the tow. The fishing vesel was pulled into the shelter of Castle Bay and then to a berth in Northbay, Barra. The Barra CRT assisted with berthing. The SAR operations were completed at 05.35 a.m.
