Technical failure during Canakkale Strait passage

Combined chemical and oil tanker Berenike (23217 gt, built 2003), en route from Malta to Tuapse, Russia in ballast condition experienced technical failure during Canakkale Strait passage at 2200 hrs, on July 1. The vessel dropped anchor at Karanlik Liman anchorage in the Strait. Repairs are still being carried out by the crew and the vessel remains stationary at anchorage position at 0100 hrs, as of July 1.

On May 6 2011 French patrol plane spotted an oil leak140 nm W off Ushant, Englishh Channel, 4 kilometers long and about a kilometer wide. Oil leak was in the wake of tanker Kaltene, ballasting from Donges to Milford Haven UK. Tanker was ordered to Brest for investigation, vessel is to arrive to Brest May 6 in the morning.
