All 12 crew members of sunken longliner rescued
Three helicopters and three lifeboats were launched after a distress signal of the "Gure Uxua" from Cariño (A Coruña), was received on Feb 3, 2017, at 3:26 p.m. upon returning home from fishing grounds off France. An SAR operation startedoff the coast of Luarca extending to Navia. All seven Galician and five Portuguese crew members of the fishing vessel that sank in the afternoon off the northern coast of Spain have been rescued alive by 5.30 p.m. The "Gure Uxua" went down 50 miles off the coast of Navia in Asturias. The last reported position was 100 km north-west of the town of Gijón. The first distress calls were received via coastal radio at 3:20 p.m. and a radio distress signal was sent six minutes later at 3:26 p.m. On scene was very strong wind and heavy rain.The crew abandoned ship into a raft. The helicopters 'Pesca 2' and 'Helimer 209' were mobilized from Galicia, and 'Helimer 211' from Gijón, as well as the "Guardamar Concepción Arenal", the "Salvamar Capella" and the "Alonso de Chaves" as well as the "HR Marion". Initially a helicopter located an empty raft, but soon after detected the crew in another. Five of the crew members were rescued by the Pesca II from Celeiro and were taken to hospital in Celeiro (Galicia) and the other seven by a Coastguard helicopter and taken to hospitals in Gijón (Asturias). Several of the men were suffering from severe hypothermia. Engine failure off Cariño
