Hundreds of migrants assisted by Salvamento Marítimo, some deceased
Several emergencies were coordinated by the MRC in Las Palmas of Salvamento Marítimo on Dec 19. On the morning, the 'Salvamar Macondo' rescued 106 sub-Saharan people ten nautical miles south of Puerto Rico. They were transferred to Arguineguín and disembarked at 6:00 a.m. LT. The 'Salvamar Al Nair' assisted two inflatable boats with 119 sub-Saharan people on board, 59 on one rubber boat and 60 on the other. They were disembarked at 5:30 a.m. in Puerto Naos Arrecife. In the SAR zone in Morocco. Salvamento Marítimo supported the National Rescue Coordination Centre (CNCS) and the Maritime Rescue Centre of Las Palmas. The 'Guardamar Urania' assisted a boat with 49 sub-Saharan people on board, among them 41 men, four women, one minor and three deceased. The Helimer 202 SAR helicopter hoisted two people, one of them deceased). The Sasemar 1013 aircraft also participated in the response. About 70 migrants rescued, four dead and five missing
On Dec 18 a zodiac, which had left Tan Tan on Dec 17, has shipwrecked 70 miles from Costa Teguise, Lanzarote and has claimed the lives of at least four people. Salvamento Marítiomo was notified by the 'Makedonicos', which was first on scene, and has managed to rescue 45 survivors and there were at least another five people missing. The 'Guardamar Urania', which has been part of the operation during the night, rescued the migrants at 10:20 p.m., among whom there were 39 men, five women and one child. There was no data on the identity of the deceased people, one of whom was recovered by a Helimer helicopte from Gran Canaria and taken to Lanzarote along with one survivor. After this mission, the 'Guardamar Urania' proceeded to carry out another rescue in the Moroccan SAR zone. When a rescue plane arrived, the boat was half-sunken, and from the air it was observed that there were between 20 and 25 people clinging to the remains of the zodiac. Spain asked Morocco for permission for one of the rescue helicopters to intervene in its SAR zone after receiving up to four calls from a satellite phone in which the occupants asked for help. In total, it transported three boats to the dock in Arrecife, where it arrived on Dec 18 at around 5:00 a.m.
More than 200 migrants rescued in several missions
On Dec 6, the Guardia Civil reported a cayuco five nautical miles from La Restinga. The CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Tenerife mobilized the 'Salvamar Acrux' to the scene which escorted the boat with 60 people on board to port. Late at night on Dec 7, the Guardia Civil reported a cayuco 10 nautical miles from La Restinga. The CSS Tenerife mobilized the 'Salvamar Acrux', which escorted it to the port, where the 48 people disembarked. Early on Dec 8, a boat was noticed off Lanzarote. The CSS Las Palmas mobilizes the 'Guardamar Urania' to the scene, which rescued the 65 people on board, who were disembarked in Arrecife. On Dec 8, the 'Salvamar Adhara' rescued 61 sub-Saharan people, among them four women, from a cayuco 0,5 nautical miles south of La Restinga. The LS 'Mike 02' of the CruzRoja remained at their side in support. At 7:10 a.m. LT the disembarkation began.
