159 migrants rescued in four missions
On Nov 6, the 'Salvamar Spica' has rescued 15 migrants from a boat, which had been located by a merchant vessel about 20 nautical miles south of Faro Sabinal. The castaways were transferred to Almeria. The 'Salvamar Gienah' has transferred 21 people to Motril from a boat which was previously located by the Guardia Civil south of Almuñécar. On the morning, the 'Salvamar Mizar' was mobilized to a cyuco which was located ten nautical miles south of El Hierro with 55 people on board. T'he migrants were accompanied to the port of La Restinga. The 'Guardamar Polimnia' has rescued 68 people from a rubber boat 42 nautical miles east of Arrecife. 29 migrants rescued alive, three recovered dead
On Oct 27, Salvamento Marítimo located a rubber boat 52 miles from Garrucha (Almería), aboard in which 32 Moroccan men were travelling. After receiving a notice during the morning in which a telephone number and a given position were attached, the ,/v 'Nsted Maersk' was asked to divert to the location of the boat, as it was close to it and after failing to contact the number provided. At first, the ship reported that it did not see any boat, but later found a rubber boat, in which the people were travelling on board without life jackets. The 'Guardamar Polinnia' was mobilized, which located the boat at 4:15 p.m. Three men were found dead inside the inflatable boat, while the remaining migrants were in apparently good health. Both the rescued people and the lifeless bodies were transferred to the Port of Almería, where they arrived at 5:20 p.m.
169 migrants escorted to El Hierro and Almería
Two arrivals of migrant boats at El Hierro and Almería were coordinated by the CCS Tenerife and Almería of Salvamento Marítimo on Oct 14. A fisherman sighted a cayuco three nautical miles south of El Hierro. The 'Guardamar Talía' accompanied it to the port of La Restinga, where the 159 people on board, among them 11 women, six minors and 142 men, disembarked. The cruise ship 'Norwegian Prima' sighted another boat 22 nautical miles south of Cabo de Gata. The 'Guardamar Polimnia' rescued them and transferred them to Almería.
