Tanker grounded at Çınarcık beach

Sat Feb 08 17:31:01 CET 2020 Timsen

On Feb 7, 2020, at 8.30 a.m. the 'Aster Alvar' suffered an engine failure between Yalova and Istanbul and was pushed onto the Çınarcık beach around 10 a.m. due to the strong wind in the Sea of Marmara. The tugs 'Sark' and 'Yalova 1' were soon on scene and made great efforts to pull the ship back into the open sea. After the tanker was refloated, it was taken to Altinova at 3.30 p.m. and moored at the Tersan shipyard in the evening. As a result of initial inspection, there was no damage related with the grounding incident. A more detailed survey and inspection were underway.
