Two mariners who set sail from Bermuda in a 40ft yacht earlier this month were rescued by a merchant ship yesterday after losing their main mast. The men, one from Italy and the other from Spain, departed the Island for the Azores on April 7 in Star of Liberty, a vessel registered in the British Virgin Islands. The chemical product tanker Cape Banks picked up a may day call from the boat yesterday morning when she was about 400 nautical miles north east of Bermuda. The two sailors abandoned ship and were taken onboard the tanker at about 12.30pm. Cape Banks then continued on her journey to Norfolk, Virginia, where she is expected to arrive on Thursday.
