German single hand sailor rescued from his yacht by the crew of the "Wilson Grimsby"
On June 27, 2014 around 10 p.m. the CROSS Etel received a call from the "Großer Bär" that the Skipper, aged 67, had fallen ill. The yacht was located about 65 km west of Penmarc'h coming from La Coruna where the ship had left on June 25 . The "Wilson Grimsby" which was close to the Position diverted to the ship and took the skipper aboard at 11 p.m. After a conference call between the Center of Maritime Medical Consultation (CCMM) in Toulouse and the CROSS Etel, a medical evacuation by helicopter was decided. On June 28 at 2:00, a.m. an EC 225 helicopter of the Navy took off with a medical team of the health service of the army on board. Around 3:00 a.m., the patient was delivered to the hospital Cavale Blanche in Brest. The yacht was taken in tow to Brest by the survey vessel "La Perouse" of the Navy which was nearby.
