Repair of collision damage done, ship underway to Frederikshavn
The "Prospero", having repaired the damage caused by the "EDT Hercules" to its port side in the Kiel Canal in the meantime, berthed in Rotterdam from Feb 23 at 3 a.m. until Feb 24, 1 a.m., before heading to Frederikshavn as next port of call. The accident in the Kiel Canal was thought to have been caused by both ships having been sucked to the other after a strong wind gust caught the "EDT Hercules" which was about to pass the tanker at that time and had not enough distance to the slower ship.
Collision on the Kiel Canal
On Feb 20, 2016, at 11.30 a.m. the "EDT Hercules" was in collision with the "Prospero" in the Kiel Canal at Breiholz, canal km 49. Both ships were westbound. The X-bow vessel scatched against the port side of the tank m/v while overtaking it. The "Prospero" suffered dented railings and a breach on deck of 10 centimeters length. The tanker which was enroute from Swinjouscie to Rotterdam berthed in Brunsbüttel at the so-called Navy pilings north at 3.30 p.m. and continued the voyage one day later with an ETA at Rotterdam as of Feb 22 at 11 a.m. The "EDT Hercules" which had suffered at the starboard side aft moored at the so called railway pilings in Brunsbüttel on the opposite canal side and continued the voyage the following day.
