Medevac after chain fall
The Coast Guard medevaced a man from the "Great Wisdom" approximately 10 nautical miles offshore Mobile, on Sep 3, 2011, in the Gulf of Mexico. Watchstanders of Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a call from the "Great Wisdom" requesting a medevac for a crewmember who was working on a hatch cover when a chain fall and a hammer fell on his right hand and wrist. The crewman experienced bleeding and possible fracture to his hand. The ship's captain administered first aid and placed the crewman's hand in a wooden splint and placed on ice. A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew launched from Destin, Fla., and successfully hoisted and transported the crewman to Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, where an ambulance transported the him to Providence Hospital.

At 1935 LT September 5 Murmansk Transport Agency agent contacted port authorities with request to assist ill crew member on board of bulk carrier Great Wisdom, vessel drifting 30 nm off Kola Bay entrance waiting for help. 2 engineer Shafiqur Rahman, Bengali, 59 years old, had a severe prostatite attack, can’t urinate for more than 24 hrs. Vessel was directed to Murmansk ETA 0400 September 6. Navy base Polyarniy agreed to send a doctor with pilot on pilot boat, at 2355 pilot and doctor boarded Great Wisdom, Shafiqur Rahman got first aid. At 0550 September 6 Shafiqur Rahman transferred to Murmansk hospital.
