Mon Jun 24 10:58:21 CEST 2024 Timsen

On the morning of June 22, the crew of the ferry 'Ostfriesland', en route from Emden to Borkum on its scheduled sailing at 9 a.m., spotted a body in the water just before Borkum, who was believed to be the deckhand who fell over board from the 'Avalon'. The frerry stopped, turned around, and after identifying the object as a body, the captain informed the DGzRs, which deployed the lifeboat "Hamburg" from Borkum, which finally recovered the body. The water police was also on site. The body has now been brought to Borkum and was received by an undertaker. The captain of the "Avalon" and the relatives from Leezdorf have now been informed.

Tue Jun 18 10:05:21 CEST 2024 Timsen

While the official search for the missing fisherman of the 'Avalon' was suspended, fishermen from Greetsiel were still searching for him with 25 cutters in the North Sea on June 17. They were aware that they were probably looking for a dead colleague, as the chance of finding him alive were slim in the 14-degree cold North Sea. The captain did not initially notice that his colleague had fallen overboard, It was unclear whether the 26-year-old man was wearing a life jacket. .
