Another Grimaldi carrier suffered engine trouble off Vigo

Mon Jan 20 11:58:01 CET 2025 Timsen

On Jan 19, 2025, at around 8 a.m. the 'Grande Atlantico', en route from Zeebrugge, suffered engine problems near Monteferro and went adrift in the Vigo estuary. The ship dropped anchor and called Salvamento Marítimo, asking for assistance. Two tugs responded. Shortly after securing the cables to begin towing, the 'Grande Atlantico' regained propulsion. However, as a precaution, it was decided to keep the tugs escorting it to the Bouzas vehicle terminal in the port of Vigo, where cargo operations started once it was safely docked. Another ship of the company, the 'Grande Napoli' is still moored at the Maritime Station of the port, months after it had suffered an engine failure on Oct 29, 2024, about 28 nautical miles west of Viana do Castelo, en route from Portbury (Bristol) to Setúbal and was towed into the port by the tug "Ría de Vigo" (IMO: 8311417). 113 migrants rescued in two cases

Sun Mar 27 19:47:38 CEST 2022 Timsen

Two boats with 113 migrants arrived in Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria in the night of March 26, 2022, a third has arrived at La Restinga (El Hierro) unassisted with an unknown number of occupants. The Las Palmas Rescue Center received notice of the departure of a rubber boat from Tarfaya, so the Sasemar 103 plane was mobilized, that located the migrants around 6:00 p.m. about ten miles from Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura). The 'Salvamar Mizar' went to the scene, while the patrol boat 'Rio Segura' of the Civil Guard, which was in the area, escorted the inflatable until the salvage boat arrived at around 7:30 p.m. and rescued 53 sub-Saharan migrants, among whom there were 39 men, 13 women and one child. The ship headed to the Port of Gran Tarajal, where it arrived around 9:00 p.m. Regarding the other case, the Sasemar 103 plane located a dinghy at 7:15 p.m., and the Las Palmas Rescue Center diverted the 'Grande Atlántico' to escort it until the arrival of the 'Guardamar Calliope'. At around 10:00 p.m., it arrived at the scene and rescued the occupants, 60 North African men, proceeding to disembark at the Port of Arguineguín (Gran Canaria) at 01:30 a.m. on March 27.
