Ship returned to Antwerp due to trouble
On July 15, 2020, at 2.05 p.m. the 'Grande Africa' suffered technical difficulties and rudder damage enroute from Antwerp to Le Havre and anchored just before the fairway of the Zandvliet lock. The vessel was assisted by five tugs. It returned to the Kieldrecht lock and berthed on the left bank at 3.50 p.m., waiting for further inspections at berth 1355. It remained stationary as of July 16.
Collison on Wester Scheldt
Just after having left the port of Antwerp bound for Lome, the "Grance Africa" was in collision with the tank barge "Leonardo", 2508 ts (EU-No.: 07001724), on the Wester Scheldt on Feb 20, 2015, at 2.45 p.m. The "Leonardo" tried to pass the outgoing carrier from starboard and suffered signifiant damage at port side. Immediately tugs of Multraship and the Union of Rescue and Towing rushed to the Scene but did not have to take action as the battered tanker was guided towards Antwerp. The ship was later able to proceed to Doel. The "Grande Africa" suffered barely damage and was now on the way to Flushing.
