USCG Medevacs Mariner SE of Dutch Harbor, Alaska
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, forward deployed in Cold Bay, Alaska, medevaced an ailing mariner off the Turkish-flagged 600-foot freight ship 26 Agustos approximately 230 miles southeast of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, Saturday morning, March 07,2015. The Jayhawk crew safely hoisted the 46-year-old man and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services in Dutch Harbor. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Communication Station Kodiak received notification that a mariner aboard the 26 Agustos was suffering from abdominal pain. Watchstanders consulted the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac. A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules airplane crew was directed to the scene to provide coverage for the Jayhawk crew while a second Air Station Kodiak Jayhawk helicopter crew was sent to Cold Bay to assist.

The "26 Agustos" was attacked by pirates on Nov 28, 2010, near Socotra island in the Arabian Sea between the coasts of Somalia and Yemen, but the crew foiled the pirates by locking themselves in the engine room and calling for help from an anti-piracy task force. The USS "Shpoup" dispatched a helicopter to survey the "26 Agustos", but the suspected pirates had fled before the help arrived. A team from the "Shoup" boarded the merchant ship and found the crew unharmed in the engine room, where they had retained control of the ship during the pirate attack and had been able to call maritime monitors in Dubai. The "26 Agustos" was traveling from Romania to Bangladesh and meanwhile continued its journey.
