Two crew members arrested for drug smuggling

Two Filipino crew members of the 'Golden Savannah' were arrested for smuggling cocaine into Korea, the Korean police stated on Oct 30. One of them was the chief officer. The captain was accused of an cover-up attempt, but was not actively involved in the criminal plot uncovered on Aug 29. Both arrested crew members denied the charges.

The "Golden Savannah" arrived at Taean Port on Aug 25, 2019, with a cargo of 120,000 tons of thermal coal for the power plant. The ship arrived from Santa Marta via Singapore. Later it was stormed by Korean Customs officers, who were alerted by US Coast Guard. According to USCG information, there was a ship to arrive to Korea with cocaine lot on board, via Singapore. Four bags with 100 kilo of cocaine were found, hidden in a compartment in the foreship, but not in cargo hold. All Filipino crew were under investigation, the ship remains berthed at the Taean Thermal Plant by Aug 29.
