Damaged bulkcarrier tod to Loktuan
The "Golden Ocean" was towed to Loktuan Port on Nov 11. The fire was extinguished, but smoke could still be seen coming from inside the vessel. The fire occurred in the engine room and spread to the accomodation block. The incident is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Committee. The bulkcarrier was underway on the Cilacap - Banyuwangi - Loktuan Bontang route when it caught fire in Bontang waters having sailed from Cilapap on Oct 10 at 8.40 a.m. The crew of 22 was saved, the fire was under control at 7 p.m. after the Bontang Navy and an SAR team responded with the tugs "Temasek Attaka", "Twinsister", "Bontang 5", "Semar 20", "Herlin - AT 15", "CB Peacok", "Sea Rider Basarnas" and "Sea Truk MIM-288". Fire off Botang
On Nov 10, 2018, at 9.30 a.m. the "Golden Ocean" issued a distress signal in pos. 00 05 N 117 55 E, 28 miles southeast of Bontang, Kalimantan, in the Makassar Strait. The ship reported a fire on board and requested the evacuation of the 22 crew members. The bulk carrier was en route to Bontang to load a cargo of coal, ETA Nov 10. By Nov ll the crew was evacuated and safe. The fire in the superstructure was tackled by tugs with fire fighting equipment.
