Training ship allided with crane
The "Golden Bear", guided by a pilot allided with a pier crane while berthing at Bridgetown, Barbados, in the morning of May 21, 2019. The ship had sailed on May 5, with planned stops in Los Angeles, Barbados, Lisbon, the Azores and Port Everglades and had on board 270 Cal Maritime cadets who are supervised by 58 faculty and staff. The ship’s mast with the range light was damaged. The mast, impacting the lowered container crane broke off. Once a temporary range light has been installed and the U.S. Coast Guard approved the repair, the ship got underway again and complete the remainder of Cruise 2019 as scheduled. On May 23 at 4 a.m. the ship left Bridgetown bound to Lisbon, ETA June. The ship was on a 2-month training voyage, and the accident did not affect the schedule.
