Tanker escaped boarding attempt

On Feb 8, 2021, at 5.20 a.m. the 'Sea King' was approached by a small boat with a number of men on board in position 00°.59.48S 007° 32.40E, abpit 74 nautical miles southwest of Port Gentil. The attackers reached the side of the tanker and attempted to climb aboard using ladders. The small boat was launched from a mother vessel nearby. tanker immediately began evasive manoeuvres which, together with the high freeboard of the vessel, saw the pirates to break off the action and abandon their attempt at capturing yet another ship in this region. The vessel and crewwere reported to be safe and the vessel has continued its voyage.

VLCC disabled after engine breakdown, drifting off Portugal

Greek owned VLCC Sea King reported disabled and drifting since July 26 in the Atlantic some 110 nm west of Portugal coast Lisbon area. Tanker en route from UK to Yeosu Korea. As of 0200 UTC Aug 3 vessel still adrift some 90 nm west of Lisbon. Vessel now changed dest. port to Scapa Flow in northern GB.
