Goethe reached Koblenz
The "Goethe" proceeded from Oberwesel to Koblenz on Aug 19 with own power including its two pump jets and berthed at 5.30 p.m. On shore repair material was already stored.
Goethe repair in Lahnstein
On Aug 18, 2011, the "Goethe" caught fire on the Rhine near Oberwesel, Rhine-Hunsrück-community on its way to Koblenz coming from Ruedesheim. It broke out in the engine room. The 174 passengers were evacuated and returned to Koblenz by train. No injuries reported. The ship was towed into the port of Oberwesel. The fire was caused by a broken oil vent which caused the spill of heated oil and development of dense smoke. The damage remained limited. After the fire the ship remained in Oberwesel until the evening of Aug 19 when it returned to Koblenz before undergoing final repairs in Lahnstein on Aug 22.
