Two dead in collision in Taipei
On March 9, 2020, at 8.45 p.m. the 'Godspeed' was in collision with the 20-ton-pilot boat 'Yonghua Lu' while entering New Taipei City upon its arrival from Taichung. The boat which had just dropped off the pilot on board of another vessel suffered a large crack at starboard side and overturned. The Taipei Port Fire Fighting Unit rushed to the rescue, supported by the New Taipei City Fire Station and the Marine Patrol. The fishing vessel 'Hengfu' which was operating nearby and tugs in the port area joined the search and rescue operation. The container ship berthed at Taipei at 9 p.m. A mobile crane recovered the wreckage of the pilot boat at 9.50 p.m. and deposited it on the quay at the 16 East general cargo terminal and fixed. The search and rescue personnel entered the cabin and find one crew member inside. An ambulance wtook him to the Tamsui Stable Hospital, but he was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m. The 59 year old captain of the boat initially was missing. The patrol bots 'Taoyuan', '10065' and '3572' continued to search in the waters of in the waters between the North 6 and North 7 container terminals of Taipei Port. On March 10 at 12.30 a.m. the body of the missing Captain Yang, 59, was also recovered. Taiwanese report with video: https://video.udn.com/news/1171263
