Ferry under repair in Frederikshavn
On Jan 12, the 'Glyvrsnes' left the port of Hirtshals and headed to Frederikshavn, where it berthed at the Orskov Yard for permanent repairs of the extensive fire damage suffered on the evening of Jan 2. Ship detained after fatal fire
On the morning of Jan 3, the Danish Maritime Authority boarded the 'Glyuvursnes' after a crew member died the previous evening, while another crew member has beeb seriously injured. The ship has been detained in Hirtshals by the Danish Maritime Authority after the fire in the engine room. The deceased is a 34-year-old man, while the seriously injured is a 47-year-old man - both from the Faroe Islands. The 47-year-old has been placed in an induced coma and transferred to Rigshospitalet for treatment of his severe burns. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and fire technicians went on board together with the Danish Maritime Authority, which was working together with the Faroese maritime authority.
One crew member died in fire
A crew member of the ' Glyvursnes' has died after a fire broke out on the ship while it was docked in the Port of Hirtshals on the evening of Jan 2, 2025. Another crew member is in critical condition. The fire broke out at 10:02 p.m. in the engine room of the "Glyvursnes". A third crew member, aged 19, was also on board. This person suffered smoke inhalation but is in stable condition. North Jutland Emergency Services reported heavy smoke from the engine room. After an hour-long effort, the fire was brought under control and extinguishing was underway. The deceased is a 34-year-old man, while the seriously injured is a 47-year-old man. They are both from the Faroe Islands. The next of kin have been notified. The 47-year-old has been transferred to Rigshospitalet for treatment of burns. He has been placed in an induced coma. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The police and fire technicians were present at the port during Jan 3 and are coordinating with the Danish Maritime Authority regarding further investigations into the fire and its cause. The Danish Maritime Authority has boarded the ship. The ship has been detained. The Danish Maritime Authority is now carrying out inspections and technical examinations on the ship with a view to determining the extent of the damage and whether the ship's seaworthiness has been compromised. The authority is cooperating with its colleagues from the Faroese maritime authority, which is the flag state of the ship. Nothing can yet be said about the time horizon for the investigations and the conclusion yet.
