Trawler leaked oil off Gotland
On Dec 9, 2017, a regular surveillance flight of the Swedish Coastguard discovered that the "Gilija" was leaking oil in the Kappelhamnsviken in northern Gotland. According to a preliminary assessment,it was a limited emission of some kind of light oil. The Coastguard vessel "KBV 310" was deployed to the trawler for investigations and was on site by 6 p.m., followed by the anti pollution vessel "KBV 033" at 9 p.m. in order to further determine of what the emissions consisted and take environmental protection measures such as preventing proliferation and absorbing oil. However, the Coastguard ships could not see any oil when they arrived at Kappelhamnsviken yesterday. In the morning of Dec 10, the "KBV 310" was still searching for oil. The Coastguard sent one more surveillance aircraft in the morning which only detected thin strips of scattered oil that was not recoverable. The "KBV 310" thereupon finished its efforts and returned to regular operations. The "Gilija" at that time was moored off Gotland with the Lithuanian trawler Minge“ (IMO-No.: 6714809) alongside. Both ships entered the port of Västervik on Dec 12 at 4 p.m. Swedish report with photos: https://www.kustbevakningen.se/hallbar-havsmiljo/nyhetsarkiv/fiskefartyg-har-lackt-ut-olja-utanfor-gotland/
