Fishing vessel grounded off Borkum

Thu Oct 13 09:19:03 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Germania - GRE 3", 23 gt, ran aground off the North Beach of Borkum island in the early morning hours of Oct 12, 2016. At 2.30 a.m. the crew of two alerted the MRCC in Bremen which dispatched the lifeboat "Alfridd Krupp" from Borkum with its crew of four. It took the boat 45 minutes to reach the casualty in swells of 1-1,5 meters and six Beaufort NE wind with wind speeds of around 50 km/h. First on site was the f/v "Korsar" from Greetsiel which in vain tried to pull the "Germania" off. The lifeboat arrived at the "Germania" at 3.30 a.m. and launched its daughter boat which managed to establish a towing connection. With the rising tide the "Germania" could be pulled off at 5 a.m. She was able to continue with own power and berthed in its homeport Greetsiel around noon. The lifeboat was back on its station at 6.20 a.m.
